So, get your pitchforks ready, today I am sharing my favorite meditation and journaling apps. Yes, you read that right. APPS to do something very mindful and in the moment.
But yeah, I am just a product of my generation and I love having an app for everything.
Also, my life is on my phone so yeah I need these things to be on my phone as well if I want them to be part of my life 😂.
Insight Timer – Meditation App
Ok, so meditation is a hard one for me. I can’t just sit and let time pass by. That is going to need a lot more practice… But I have moved on from guided meditations (more on that in a later app). So what to do?
I only use the actual timer function in this app to have a clear start and ending to my meditation sessions. So I no longer have to peek if my 10-minutes-of-meditation is already over and I can focus on the meditation itself. If you do longer sessions but still feel that urge to check how long you’ve been meditating (no, that does not mean you are doing it wrong… meditation is a skill not an empty state of mind but more on that in a different blog post) the app also gives you the option to ring a little bell at set intervals telling you exactly how far you are in your meditation session.
You can listen to their music or just meditate in complete silence, all this app does is tell you when you can end your session and get back to your life!
Grateful – Gratitude app
Gratitude helps me with keeping track of the things that ARE going my way in my life. When you are out chasing your dreams it is easy to focus on the things you don’t have yet, so tracking my gratitude every day is a great way to focus on the now as well.
This app prompts a question a day and you can even get a push notification to make sure that you will answer it every day! You can also add your own questions to make the journaling experience more personal.
Headspace – Meditation (and mindfulness)
I LOVE this app, I actually love it sooo much that I am thinking about buying a premium account for it. For some people that isn’t a big deal but for frugal old me, it really is. This app has thought me so much about meditation and how it is not what I thought it was (sitting and trying to think about nothing) and how I should do it. I kind of moved passed their guided meditations, but on some days I do get back to them to get really focused.
You can also set push notifications so you will actually do it and get into a meditation habit. After the basics, they have packages that you can buy with a premium account and I am very tempted to do it. It is not just meditation either, they have mindfulness exercises, special packs for working out, commuting, travel and so much more.
I do feel like it is very much a beginners app, so if you are very advanced you can skip this one!
Journey – Journaling
Journey is a real diary app. I usually use this app once a week, just to recap the week that just passed and to write my hopes and dreams of the coming week. You can add pictures, your location, your mood and custom tags to organize your journal entries any way you want!
I am very curious if you love these apps as much as I do and if you have any other favorites that I should check out!
